Recently, “One Country Two System Search Center and Cambridge University published their research results on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Hong Kong’s job market. The researchers show that among the 3.7 million employment population, 28% are at high risks of being replaced by AI. In other words, in the next 10 to 20 years, this high-risk population is at a 70% probability being replaced by AI. 18% of the population is at the lower end of the replacement risk (less than 30%). However, this does not mean that they are completely safe, but means that the impact of AI on restructuring will be more gradual.
The four major industries in Hong Kong include financial services, tourism, trading and transportation, and professional services. These top industries contribute 56% of GDP to Hong Kong. However, they are all at high risk of being replaced of AI. As a result, if the predicted trend becomes reality, Hong Kong would eventually lose its core competitiveness.
Maybe it is time to consider this problem along with some alternations in your career path.
